Bluetooth attacks are becoming more and more common, but it’s tricky to know what exactly a Bluetooth attack is. The two main categories of Bluetooth attacks are bluejacking and bluesnarfing.
Bluejacking is when someone uses their smartphone to send a message to another device that’s nearby, like a car or person, without the other person knowing. A bluetooth attack can be done at any time during the day, even in public settings like a coffee shop or grocery store. In fact, one study found that there were almost twice as many cases of bluejacking than traditional malware incidents each year.
Bluesnarfing is when an attacker uses their own smartphone to access data from another device connected to the same network as their own—like a phone or laptop—without that user’s knowledge.
